The slow swimming, megamouth shark is one of the most rare sharks. Since the megamouth shark was discovered, only 54 megamouth`s have been found. Two of the megamouth`s cousins are the basking shark and the whale shark. The megamouth is not like other sharks. It is flabby and it has loose skin and a oddly shaped huge mouth. Megamouth shark like its cousins is a filter feeder. That is why it has such a huge mouth. Most megamouths were caught in fishing nets. One day, on November 15th of November, 1976, a U.S ship was cruising off the coast of one of the islands of Hawaii and found that it`s sea anchor (a sea anchor is an anchor that drags along the ocean when the ship is moving) had picked up something huge. When they pulled up the anchor they found that a big dead fish had got snagged on their anchor. They didn`t know what kind of fish it was so they took it to the Waikiki aquarium. The scientists there said it was a kind of shark but they didn't know what kind it was. It was named after it`s big mouth. The shark about 14.7 feet long and it was around 1,650 pounds.

The Goblin Shark
The goblin shark is one of the strangest sharks. It is the only shark that can thrust it`s jaw out of it`s mouth to catch it`s prey. When it`s done, it collapses it`s jaw back into it`s mouth. The goblin shark can grow up to 8 to 12 feet long so they're not the biggest sharks. People don`t know about the goblin sharks population but one day, shortly after an earthquake near china, about 100 dead goblin sharks washed ashore so people think that there is a large population deep under the sea. People call goblin sharks the ugliest living sharks and aliens from outer space. Goblin shark attacks are very rare. Goblin sharks have very poor eyesight. In fact, the only goblin shark attack I`ve heard of was because a goblin shark mistook a diver for a fish.

The Mako Shark
The mako sharks are the fastest sharks in the world. The mako shark can jump over ten feet! Mako`s are built for speed. Their muscles are arranged diffrently then other sharks. Their muscles are like propellers that push them forword. Even their tails have the right proportions to make them move faster, with maximum forword thrust and minimum drag to slow them down. Mako`s have sharp and pointy teeth. Males can grow to 10 feet long and females average 12 and a half feet. Mako`s are blueish gray.
Great White Shark
the great white shark... The great white shark is one of the most dangerous sharks in the world. One of the reasons that people fear them so much is because of the movie Jaws. The great white`s body inspired submarine designs. Most people don`t get to see the great white`s features. Here are some features so you can reconize the great white... Number one, great white`s have two to two and a half inch teeth. Number two, great white`s have small cone shaped noses. Number three, great white`s have sawlike teeth for ripping flesh. Number four, great white`s are gray on the top and white on the bottom. Great white`s teeth aren`t the strongest though. Tiger sharks teeth are stronger than a great white`s. Great white`s don`t like to be put in tanks. Scientists once put a great white in a tank to study it but it wasen`t eating it`s food and it was ramming it's self agenst the walls. So, they put it back in the ocean. One of the great white`s favorite food`s is seal meat. Great white sharks have excellent vision and sense of smell. Great white`s can grow up to 21 feet long!

The Sand Tiger Shark
The Sand Tiger Shark: These sharks, also known as Sand Sharks,Raggletooth Sharks and Grey Nurse Sharks, have curvy, pointy teeth that make them look like the meanest fish in the ocean. Because of the way their jaws are shaped, their teeth stick out even when their mouths are closed! The good news is that these sharks are not very aggressive at all and are not known to attack people, unless provoked. They live in warm waters all over the world, usually growing to around 10 feet in length. It is because of their scary appearance and calm behavior, they they are popular aquarium sharks. The look fierce, but seldom snack on their tank mates. One unique thing about Sand Tigers, is that they don't need to keep swimming to stay afloat. By gulping in big mouthfuls of air, the shark uses these air pockets like balloons, allowing it to hover without swimming. When a Sand Tiger wants to sink, it burps!
Here's a short video of showing the sharp, pointed teeth of this snaggle toothed predator:

The Blind Shark
Greetings Shark Team!
It's been a few months since our last blog, so we thought we'd do two today. First, the Blind Shark. The Blind Shark is in the carpet shark group. This shark is not actually blind at all. They get their name from the way they tightly close their eyes when pulled out of the water, giving the appearance of having no eyes at all! The Blind Shark lives off the coast of Australia. They are usually found in shallow water, hiding in caves during the day, coming out at night to hunt. There are two species of Blind Shark. The Blind Shark is yellow underneath and brown on top, with pale spots. It is usually around 4 feet long. Blind Sharks have long spiracles, which help them breathe, even when their snouts are buried in mud. Blind Sharks feed by snuffling along the ocean floor, searching for cuttlefish, shellfish and crabs.

The Bull Shark
Bull sharks are special because they can live in both fresh and salt waters. You know how? Because they can balance the amount of salt in their bodies. Bull sharks have even been found in the Mississippi River in Illinois! Bull sharks usually swim in shallow waters, so they can sometimes run into people.
Bull sharks aren't very long but are very heavy and have a powerful bite. They are also aggressive and guard their territory. Bull sharks will attack creatures bigger than them if they feel threatened.
Bull sharks have small eyes, but since they swim in shallow and murky water, good eyes wouldn't help them, anyway. They use their other senses. Scientists think the bull sharks' weak eyes might be why there have been so many bites on people.
